Wellington Drive Round Weekend - 24th/25th Aug 19
Words and Pictures by James Trembath

Drive Round Weekends are proving to be popular and we’re on our end of the summer weekend back at our traditional Wellington site. We had a full house entered which we limit to 6 to maintain exclusivity and it also ensures the small friendly nature of the event does not scale out of proportion.

Adam Kershaw was first arrived on scene with his son Dexter. This time he’s brought his 4x4 Mercedes Sprinter but with the sole intention of taking it into camp and not moving it on from there!

Ian Stokes, Kevin Williams, Kevin Luxton, Paul Radford with Jack, plus Scott all joined us for the weekend. The main aim to have some fun whilst camping in a reasonably remote location and do some off roading. Off roading on private land, where you encounter a great deal more than gravel tracks!

The routes on our sites are designed to test both man and machine and all day driving is reasonably tiring on peoples concentration. Its tight between the trees in places and the ground unforgiving for those that let off too soon. There is plenty available to keep everyone on their toes and to make it all the more interesting the site has undergone a massive change! 5 acres of trees have been moved! Well gone!

Lots of opportunities to try out some new options and make new tracks. This weekend we also took our first foray back into the quarry site, somewhere we have not frequented for the last 5 or 6 years.

There are some cracking little sections up in the quarry, some short sharp drops, the ‘wall of death’ one slip and it’s a long way down! Plus lots of little axle twisters both up and down, plenty of opportunity to test your nerve!

With a camping element and splitting the off roading over two days there is plenty of social too, time to relax and put your feet up for a bit, or if the need is great, get out on that night drive too!
